Angel of Love and Mercy
Submitted by Christina
This experience that occurred happened very recently, only yesterday. I have been sick with a possible sinus infection (a nurse told me to stay in bed, get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids, etc.). I was in great despair because I knew I needed to work the next day (today). I was fearful that I somehow couldn't make it. The pain in my sinus cavities was great, and I felt absolutely exhausted. I couldn't breathe through either nostril and had to breathe through my mouth, causing dry mouth and a lot of labored breathing. My allergies were at their worst. I told my fiance over the phone, "I don't know how I'll make it. I just wish I could die!" And even though I didn't want to leave this earth, I felt so sick and was so full of hopelessness and fear for the immediate future that I really just wanted to be out of pain and fast.
I lay down to take a nap, still on the phone with my fiance. I was feeling quite sorry for myself. I was so tired, I had left a lamp on (to my left). I couldn't breathe well. I had chills and was freezing cold, even though I was wearing a very warm bathrobe, my pajamas, and two thick blankets. Any part of my body that was exposed seemed to be very cold. The time, specifically, was 4:00.
That was when I felt like someone else was in the room, almost as if my fiance was there by my bedside with a hand on my shoulder, asking me if I was warm enough and telling me I'd be okay. I think I may have moved a bit, but only to snuggle deeper under the covers. I noticed that even with closed eyelids there was suddenly a very great light in the room (I could see the line where my eyelashes were, it was so bright). My dim lamp could not have made this much light; and it was a very cloudy, rainy day, so it could not have come from outside. My sinuses started to clear up, at least temporarily, in one nostril. And that was when I heard a voice in my head say, "I am the angel of love and mercy."
That was all I remember of this incident. The next thing I knew, I was asleep. I woke up feeling as if I had slept for hours. My sinuses clogged back up again, but oddly enough, I no longer had the chills and I felt strangely energized. I glanced at my clock. 4:15. I had been asleep for, at the most, just 15 minutes. I tried to make sense out of what had happened for a few minutes, then checked the clock again in disbelief. Then I picked up the phone and asked my fiance how long I'd been asleep. "Just 20 minutes," he said.
A little later, I read 1 Kings 19:1-9 about Elijah's visit from an angel and found two very interesting parallels. First of all, Elijah had been feeling deeply discouraged, as had I--even to the point where he wanted to die. Secondly, Elijah also slept as I did.
Whatever transpired, and I believe it was an angel coming to comfort me, as I had had several people, my fiance included, praying for me. I wound up feeling hopeful instead of hopeless. I remembered that I can do anything through Him who strengthens me, and I went to work today and made it through successfully (and safely). I have a doctor's appointment for tomorrow to find out if I really do have a sinus infection. I am convinced that if my doc says I am just suffering from plain old allergies, that God healed me, because I know that over the weekend my symptoms were far worse and resembled a very serious infection. I am convinced that the Angel of Love and Mercy was God's answer to prayer for my healing.
